Our Company History


Deeply rooted in principles of accountability, respect, preservation
and integrity, the Mikisew Group of Companies (Mikisew Group)
has proudly served our communities and partners since 1991.
Our traditions and knowledge of our land informs all that we
do: we proudly draw on our history to inspire ideas, action
and a collaborative approach. Through continued cooperation
with government and industry, we work together to foster the
responsible development of shared resources in the Oil Sands.


Owned directly by Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN), Mikisew Group
began with 8 employees. Since then, we have grown to a focused
team of approximately 400, operating in Fort Chipewyan, Fort
McMurray and Edmonton – where most members of MCFN reside.
Of the five Athabasca Tribal Council Nations, our membership
is the largest and counts approximately 3,000 individuals.


We are one of the market leaders in hiring and retaining Aboriginal employees. With a peak employment count of approximately 400 employees, we maintained nearly 40% aboriginal content
